KenGen Sustainability Report

Sustainability Reporting Framework

KenGen is committed to aligning its operations, strategy, and sustainability priorities with globally recognized sustainability frameworks that provide standardized methodologies for measuring, managing, and disclosing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance. This alignment strengthens responsible business conduct, enhances transparency, and enables KenGen to deliver measurable and impactful sustainability outcomes across its value chain.

KenGen became a participant of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) in May 2019, joining a global initiative for businesses committed to advancing sustainable and responsible practices. Participation in the UNGC reflects KenGen’s commitment to integrating the Ten Principles of the UNGC into its operations, policies, and corporate culture across four thematic areas: human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption.

Through this commitment, KenGen undertakes to:

  • Respect and support human rights, ensuring its operations contribute positively to communities and society.
  • Promote decent work and labour standards, including fair treatment, inclusion, and safe working conditions across its workforce and supply chain.
  • Advance environmental stewardship through climate action, resource efficiency, and sustainable energy generation.
  • Uphold ethical governance, embedding integrity and actively combating corruption in all forms.

We are deeply committed to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) as a core sustainability framework guiding our strategy, operations, and long-term value creation. The Company recognizes the United Nations SDGs as a universal blueprint for addressing global challenges from climate change and resource management to social inclusion, economic growth, and governance and we embed their principles into every aspect of our business. We strategically design our projects and initiatives to deliver tangible results across key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

We have assessed our environmental, social, and economic impacts using an impact-based scoring approach to prioritize the SDGs most material to our strategy, ensuring alignment with global sustainability priorities and long-term stakeholder value.
